Unlocking the 2.7 GHz band will provide the critical mid-band spectrum America needs to power innovation. A 2028 FCC auction will accelerate 6G deployment in the United States, driving competitiveness and productivity in AI, industry, and the broader economy. This will strengthen America’s leadership in the global race for next-generation technology.
WHY 2.7 GHz
The right spectrum for America, at the right moment.
The 2.7 GHz band offers a powerful combination of coverage and capacity ideal for next-generation wireless networks. A 2.7 GHz auction by 2028 will put this spectrum to work for the country by providing critical advantages, including fueling economic growth across industries, supercharging technological innovation, and enhancing America’s competitiveness.
Timing matters. If the auction slips beyond 2028, the risk is not just a delayed process. It’s delayed investment, slower innovation, lost ground to other countries who are not waiting, and a narrower window for the United States to shape the 6G future.
Here’s what’s at stake for America:
Economic
Growth
6G will accelerate growth across sectors, enabling large-scale AI and automation, ultimately transforming how America makes products, moves goods, grows food, and cares for its people.
An independent NERA analysis estimates that each additional 100 MHz of mid-band spectrum deployed could generate $264B in GDP growth, 1.5M jobs, and $388B in consumer surplus.
Technology
Leadership
6G standards and innovation are being shaped now, and these next-generation networks will support emerging technologies, including AI, robotics, and other advanced applications that will define the future.
Without additional commercial mid-band spectrum, U.S. networks could face growing capacity constraints as wireless demand accelerates and next-generation networks come to fruition.
Strategic
Competition
President Trump and Congress are taking action for the United States to win the 6G race and be the global leader in developing technologies that rely on 6G.
China is already moving aggressively to position spectrum for next-generation networks and directing investment towards 6G—falling behind would mean ceding technology foundational to the national security, foreign policy, and economic interests of the United States.
